It is the single most common question we hear at our Huntington Beach studio. This guide breaks down exactly what each type is, how they differ, and how to pick the one that fits your eyes and your lifestyle.

The one thing that separates every lash type

Almost every difference between lash types comes down to a single idea: how many extensions we place on each of your natural lashes.

• Classic: one extension per natural lash
• Hybrid: a mix of single extensions and small handmade fans
• Volume: a handmade fan of three to five ultra-fine lashes per natural lash
• Mega volume: a dense fan of six to fifteen of the finest lashes per natural lash

As you move down that list, the lash line gets fuller, darker, and more dramatic. Everything else (curl, length, mapping) is customized on top of whichever type you choose.

Classic lashes: the natural enhancement

Classic lashes place a single extension on each natural lash. The look is refined and understated: your lashes, but noticeably better. There is no visible density beyond what nature gave you; instead, sparse areas fill in and the whole eye looks more defined.

Choose classic if: you want a natural, no-makeup look, you are new to extensions, or you simply want to stop wearing mascara.

Hybrid lashes: texture and depth

Hybrid lashes blend classic single extensions with lightweight volume fans. The mix creates a soft, textured, slightly wispy finish with more depth than classic, without going full glam.

Choose hybrid if: classic feels too subtle, your natural lashes are fine or unevenly spaced, or you want that popular “wispy” look.

Volume lashes: full and fluffy

Volume lashes use handmade fans of three to five ultra-fine extensions on each natural lash. Because the fibers are so thin (around 0.05 to 0.07mm), the set looks full and dark while staying feather-light.

Choose volume if: you want everyday glam, a fluffy dark lash line, or fullness that a single extension cannot deliver.

Mega volume: maximum drama

Mega volume packs six to fifteen of the finest lashes (0.03 to 0.05mm) into each fan for the densest, darkest, most dramatic look extensions can create, almost like a soft eyeliner along the lash line. Will any of these damage my natural lashes?

Not when they are applied correctly. The key is weight and isolation: each natural lash should comfortably carry whatever is placed on it, and each extension should be isolated so lashes are never glued together. That is entirely down to technique, which is why choosing a trained, careful artist matters far more than the lash type you pick.
